Episode 2 : Attack of the Clones (Picture Gallery) (Added 28/01/2006)

A to Z

Admiral Ackbar

A Mon Calamari who commands the Rebel fleet, Ackbar is a brave and courageous fighter who led Coral Depths City when it was invaded by Imperial Forces and nearly destroyed. He was captured and eventually became interpreter for Grand Moff Tarkin.

Like other Mon Calamari, Ackbar has distinctive pink mottled skin, large protruding yellow-orange eyes and webbed hands and feet.

All-Terrain Armoured Transport (AT-AT)

The giant four-legged AT-AT is more than 15 metres high and 20 metres long and can reach speeds of 60 kilometres an hour. Used for combat and transport by Empire forces, its armoured body can carry 40 powerfully-equipped troops and five speeder bikes. It blasts deadly bursts from cannons mounted beneath its chin while the rotating head gives the pilot ad gunner a clear view of any battlefield from the high-tech command deck. A deadly weapon, this Empire juggernaut is as powerful for its sheer fear factor – pounding inhospitable ground with heavy stomping feet – as it is for delivering lethal laser fire.

Amidala, Queen of Naboo

In the Phantom Menace, she will fall victim to the greedy Trade Federation. Eventually, her character will meet and fall in love with the young Anakin Skywalker. Her destiny is to bear two children – Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker.

Astromech Droid

Standing about one metre tall, these useful work droids have been performing multiple tasks throughout the galaxy for many years. All-rounders, like R2-D2, they are designed for sophisticated computer repair and information retrieval. These utility droids are short and squat, usually cylindrical, and travel on a pair of special rollers. They often have a retractable third leg to help navigate difficult terrain.

They can perform around 10,000 tasks every second. In effect, they act as co-pilot.

A-Wing Starfighter

First came into deadly employment at the Battle of Endor. This small quick, darting and death dealing starfighter has become a saviour of the Alliance. The super-light wedge-shaped A-wing includes a jamming system which lets captains blind the enemy just before an attack.

Boss Nass

A grotesque alien who revels in the title of Leader of the Gungans in the brand-new movie. This green-faced monster lives in a swamp and rides a dinosaur called a Kadoo.

B-Wing Starfighter

The brainchild of the brilliant fighter Admiral Ackbar, the B-wing spacecraft helped secure victory for the Rebel Alliance at the Battle of Endor. Its unique design includes a floating cockpit at one end. One of the most armoured of starfighters, the B-wing is so-called because the design of the airfoils looks similar to the letter B.

A protocol droid fluent in more than six million forms of communication, C-3PO has a strongly-programmed desire to see that everything is done just right. Gold-coloured, but with one silver leg, he has a processor to help him closely mimic human movements so he can blend easily into human society to carry out his protocol duties. C-3PO has been the faithful and loyal servant to many masters in his time - Luke Skywalker is his 43rd. Protocol droid often team up with a utility droid - in C-3PO`s case R2-D2 - to carry out their huge range of functions.

Calrissian, Lando

Baron Administrator of Bespni`s Cloud City and a man with a murky past. A one-time con artist, he becomes an accomplished smuggler with a gambling habit, losing the Millennium Falcon to Han Solo, but winning Cloud City in another card game.

A towering 6ft 6in tall wookiee from the planet Kashyyk. Chewie loves a good fight. More than 200 years old, he was captured by slavers and sold to Imperial forces. rescued by the daring Hans Solo, Chewie teamed up with him to repay the traditional Wookie life-debt. Chewie has the strength to tear limbs off most creatures with just his hands. But his most deadly weapon is the Bowcaster, a traditional Wookie weapon like a a crossbow which shoots energy shells over a range of 50 metres.

Cloud City

Cloud City lays about 60,000 kilometres above the gas giant planet Bespin, which also includes a huge gas mine. After Han Solo, Princess Leia, Chewie, and C3-PO had escaped Darth Vader after the Rebel defeat at Hoth, they went to Cloud City which was at the time run by Lando Calrissian, an old friend of Han. But Calrissian lured the Rebels into a trap and they were captured. When Lando saw the deal he had made with Darth Vader getting worse, he freed the captives and ran off with them. Cloud City was then presumably left in the hands of the Empire until its fall.

Coruscant is the centre of the known universe, as its co-ordinates (zero-zero-zero) suggest. Part of the Core Worlds, it is the seat of galactic government with a huge city still thriving since the days of the Old Republic, perhaps more than a thousand generations ago.

Dath Sidious

A mysterious caped figure, he appears in the new film mostly as a spectral holo-projection. He issues orders to Darth Maul, who seems to be his underling. He has a black hood and only the lower half of his deathly-white face is visible. His voice is similar to the Emperor`s in Return Of The Jedi as he screams to Dath Maul: "Wipe them out - all of them".

Death Stars

The Death Star is an enormous battle station that`s capable of destroying a whole world. Governor Tarkin was in charge of the first one and used it to blow up Princess Leia`s home planet, Alderaan.

The first of the fearsome stations was blown up by Luke Skywalker during the battle of Yavin, but in Return of the Jedi, the Emperor had made a new Death Star that was even more powerful than the first.

The second Death Star was by the forest moon of Endor and gained power from a base placed on the planet. The Rebels planned an attack on it, believing that the Death Star was not complete and therefore not capable of returning fire.

But the evil Emperor, believing he had developed the ultimate weapon containing a planet-wrecking superlaser, had set a trap which the unwitting Rebels slipped straight into.  Fortunately, when Han Solo, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, the two droids and a lot of Ewoks blew up the power station at Endor, Lando Calrissian in the Millennium Falcon and his squadron of crack X-wing fighters were able to destroy the second Death Star.

Dodonna, General Jan

The man who commanded the rebel assault on the Death Star at the Battle of Yavin, It was a master stroke when he spotted the best chance of getting through the station`s defences was by bombing a small thermal exhaust port. Thanks to that, a fleet of 30 fighters could destroy a massive battle station.

Dune Sea

A sandy desert on the planet of Tatoonie Location of Jabba the Hutt`s palace and home of the mighty sarlacc. Most life forms are unable to survive its extreme temperatures and lack of water, but Ben Kenobi lived in the vast expanses there during his hermit years.

Echo Base

When the rebels where forced to flee their base at Yavin IV, they fled to the ice planet of Hoth where they built Echo Base. The command headquarters was protected by an iron cannon, and the planet Hoth was shielded. It was destroyed in the Battle of Hoth by an overwhelming Imperial assault.

Emperor`s Royal Guard

The Emperor needed a specialist protection team and the secretive Royal Guard were it. In scarlet robes, the ex-Stormtroopers were an imposing sight and Palpatine was never left alone.

Laser guns and huge pikes were their main weapons and their ambitions were to become Imperial Sovereign Protectors, in charge of security at all Palpatine properties.

The Royal Guard were finished once their leader was apparently killed by the Rebel Alliance at Endor.

Empire, The

When the Old Republic started falling apart, Senator Palpatine proclaimed himself Emperor and formed the Galactic Empire.

Eventually he dissolved the Senate and started ruling as a sole dictator, as power and fear kept the galaxy true to him. He promised to erase evil within his Empire, but instead built a world of wickedness the galaxy had never seen before.

Located in the Moddell sector, the forest moon of Endor (also called the Sanctuary Moon) is a temperature, densely-forested world.

The moon`s low axial tilt and the regular orbit of a gas giant primary helps ensure a comfortable climate suitable for its many native life forms, including the Endoran pony, the Endoran vethiraptor and the primitive Ewoks.

Endor was chosen as the construction site for the second Death Star and an Imperial base was established on the surface to generate a protective shield for the orbiting battle station. The super-weapon and much of the Imperial Fleet were subsequently destroyed in what is now known as the battle of Endor.

Endor, Battle of

The Emperor built a second death Star, which gained energy from a power station at the planet Endor. But under the command of Lando Calrissian, the rebels blew up the Death Star at the decisive Battle of Endor. A hand picked force led by Hans Solo were able to set up the victory by destroying vital protective shields.

Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine were apparently killed as the Empire and its Imperial Fleet was destroyed, leading to the formation of the New Republic.

An Ewoks is a small furry creature, about a metre high who lives on the forest moon of Endor.

Ewoks make their communal dwellings in the trees - which are considered their spiritual guardians and can grow 300 metres high.

Music plays an important role in Ewok culture, and each tribe has a shaman who interprets mystical signs.

Natural enemies of the Ewoks are the large humanoid creatures called Gorax, who search the trees for Ewok dwellings low enough to grab. Other predators living on the forest moon are numerous but primarily nocturnal.

The Ewoks still use bows and arrows, slingshots and catapults, but they played a vital role for the Rebel Alliance against the Empire at the Battle of Endor.

Fett, Boba

Together with other bounty hunters, Boba Fett was hired by Darth Vader to find the Millennium Falcon after it escaped from Echo Base at Hoth. Boba, from the planet Concord Dawn, did the same trick as Han Solo, floating away with the rubbish dropped from the Imperial Star Destroyer.

Boba Fett then left Vader to the Cloud City above Bespin before the Millennium Falcon got there. When Han was frozen in carbonite, Fett brought him to his ship - Slave I - to deliver him to Jabba the Hutt.

After cashing in the bounty for Han, Fett stayed a while at Jabba the Hutt`s palace. When Luke Skywalker, Han and Chewie broke free while they were supposed to be in the Sarlacc pit, Han accidentally turned on Fett`s fly-pack, so he flew into a wall and in with the deadly Sarlacc.

Force, The

It`s the ability to harness the Force which gives a Jedi his power. The Force is an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together.

There are two sides of the Force - the light side (knowledge and peace) and the dark side (anger and aggression) and to use the Force, one must be at harmony with it. Only when calm and at peace, can anyone act with he assurance of control. The will and the Force are one.

The universe is an angry morass of power and to release that power requires harnessing the most basic of emotions: hate, fear and aggression.

The choice of the Jedi is serenity or hatred; peace or anger; freedom or tyranny; learning or power; the Light or the Darkness.

A Jedi`s strength comes from the Force, but a true Jedi uses it only for knowledge and defence - never attack.

Hoth, Battle of

The Hoth system contains nine planets, the largest being Hoth itself. When the Rebels were forced to flee Yavin IV, they placed their new home, named Echo Base, on the ice planet Hoth.

But after an Imperial probe droid landed at Hoth, the Empire and Darth Vader found them and Vader launched an attack on the planet, using AT-AT walkers. The Rebels fled from Hoth and the Imperial troops destroyed Echo Base.

It was one of the worst defeats for the Rebel Alliance during the Galactic Civil War, but their considerable losses would surely have been greater had the Imperial fleet not accidentally altered their enemies to the impending attack.

Imperial Pilots

An elite group, part of the Imperial Navy, which takes only the top 10 per cent of applicants. These chosen few undergo psychological conditioning, training them to put target destruction above personal survival.

Each pilot is well aware of being expendable and is convinced their TIE Fighter is the best weapon in the galaxy. The fighters carry no deflector shields, regarded by the pilots as instruments of cowardice. But they do have high-performance ion engines which run on high-pressure radioactive gas and their lightweight design leaves them amazingly agile.

Ion Cannons

These huge laser cannons fire bursts of energy which destroy mechanical and computer systems. An ion cannon was part of the defence of Echo Base on Hoth and was used to provide cover during the escape of the Rebels, It was capable of shooting starships that orbit the planet.

Jabba The Hutt

A notorious crimelord who ran his organisation from the planet Tatoonie, Jabba was one of the kingpins in the Outer Rim Territories. His organisation was involved in a wide variety of illegal activities, from smuggling to spice dealing, slave trading to murder, loan sharking to protection.

Like others of his race, the 600-year-old Jabba was a legless, slug-like being with reptilian eyes and gross mannerisms. Approximately four metres long, Jabba was huge even among his own kind.

His desert palace on Tatooine was full of decadent luxuries, an army of alien and human criminals, droid slaves and fawning servants. Among Jabba`s most prized possessions were the Rancor monster and the sail barge.

Just about every smuggler, bounty hunter, pirate and thief in the Outer Rim Territories eventually took on a job for Jabba, including Han Solo and his partner Chewbacca.

After Solo dumped a shipment of spices to avoid an Imperial blockade, Jabba gave the smuggler a limited time to make good on the shipment`s worth. When Solo failed to return to Tatooine to pay off his debt, Jabba put a price on his head. Bounty hunter Boba Fett found him but Solo`s Rebel companions came to his rescue.

Although Luke Skywalker`s Jedi "mind tricks" did not work against Jabba, his other abilities made short work of the crimelord`s men.  Facing execution in the Sarlacc pit, Luke and Han Solo managed to free themselves and the whole sorry saga ended with princess Leia strangling Jabba.

Jawas are small, rodent-like scavengers who capture droids without owners and sell them.  They wear specially-spun coarse cloaks with hoods covering all but their glowing eyes and protecting them from the fierce double sun of the planet Tatooine.

Jawas are about one metre tall and nest up to 300 at a time in their giant sandcrawler vehicles, where they also keep their droids and are considered to be pests by most species.

Very few of them are left in their homeworld. When C3PO and R2-D2 landed there, they were captured by Jawas and sold to Luke Skywalker and his uncle.

Jaw Jaw Binks

A floppy-eared creature who ends up caught within laser bolts in the new movie. But des he survive ...

Jedi Knights

Jedi Knights have learned to master the Force, giving them what appear to be supernatural skills, particularly when using their lightsabers.

For more than a thousand generations the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. But that was before the dark times - before the Empire.

A Jedi named Anakin Skywalker went over to the Dark Side and became Darth Vader. He betrayed the Jedi Knights and got them all killed, except two - Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin`s former Master.

Kenobi, Ben (Obi-Wan)

He seemed like nothing but an old wanderer, a mad recluse who lived alone in the Jundland Wastes on planet Tatooine.

But old Ben Kenobi was once Obi-Wan Kenobi, a revered Jedi Knight who studied under the Jedi Master Yoda and learned the ways of the Force.

As a flamboyant general, he fought in the Clone Wars with Bail Organa of Alderaan and the two became lifelong friends. Kenobi recognised Anakin Skywalker`s natural Force talents and decided to train him to be a Jedi.

Lars, Owen

When Ben Kenobi went to his brother Owen Lars and his sister-in-law Beru and asked them to take in a young orphan of the Skywalker line, it was a master-stroke.

Owen became young Luke`s guardian and brought him up with strong discipline, shielding him up with strong discipline, shielding from him the fact that his father had become Darth Vader.

One day Owen awoke to the sound of blaster shots being fired across his courtyard on Tatooine. He ran out to find Imperial Stormtroopers burning his garage and the last thing Owen felt before he passed out was the flesh being burned off of his calf.

Leia, Princess

Leia was adopted by Bail Organa and the Royal Family of Alderaan at an early age and raised as though she was Bail`s own daughter. She didn`t know her father was Darth Vader.

Leia became a political leader on Alderaan, eventually winning a seat on the Imperial Senate and she also went to work for the Alliance - led by Bail Organa - in its bid to restore the Republic.

It was while on a twin mission for the Alliance and her foster father that she became involved in the events that would lead her into the company of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo by getting her hands on plans for a second Death Star battle station.

The favoured weapons of Jedi Knights, lightsabers are built to a pattern but tailored to an individual. The pure energy blade has no mass and the electromagnetically generated arc wave creates a gyroscopic effect that makes it hard to handle.

Lightsabers are made by hand and the crucial skill is aligning natural crystals. If they don`t align, the weapon detonates when used.

Luke Sykwalker`s famous lightsaber is a legacy from his father Anakin, a former Jedi Knight.

Millennium Falcon

Han Solo`s pride and joy, the Millennium Falcon is a 26-metre modified YT-1300 Corellian freighter that is twice as fast as any Imperial warship and has made the Kessel run in 12 paraseconds.

Solo won the falcon from Lando Calrissian - who used it to destroy the second death Star at the Battle of Endor - in a game of sabacc, then made some special modifications. These included security mechanisms, deflector shields, hull-plating, faster hyperdrive and enhanced weapons.

Though Han claims the ship is in perfect shape, that isn`t always true. The Falcon almost constantly has breakdowns concerning the hyperdrive. But the craft has two gun bays, separated from the cockpit and is one fo the fastest and best-equipped in the galaxy.

Mos Eisley

Mos Eisley is the main city of the desert planet tatooine and has a spaceport and a docking bay.  But it hardly paradise planet. Criminals of all kinds pass through in their millions and it was a favourite haunt of Jabba the Hutt.

Obi-Wan kenobi summed up the place by saying : "You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy".

Motti, Admiral

Motti was an Imperial Senior Navy commander of the Death Star and an ambitious leader. But he was promoted due to his support of New Order, not his military skill.

Motti believed that the technology the Empire had in the Death Star was what they needed to crush the rebels, but he ridiculed the Force and died when the Death Star was destroyed. Before that, he was almost choked to death by Darth Vader.

Naboo Royal N-1 Starfighter

Part of the royal escort belonging to Queen Amidala in the new film. This graceful. sleek craft is renowned for its speed and precision handling.

Palpatine, Emperor

As a young Senator in the closing days of the Old Republic, Palpatine rose to power and became the ruler. But ultimately obsessed with that power, he declared himself Emperor and created from the ashes of the Old Republic the Galactic Empire.

Over time Palpatine, a Force user, bagena experimenting with the Dark Side and after learning the deepest and darkest secrets through the jedi Holocron, Palpatine became a living channel of the Dark Side.

With the aid of the fallen Jedi Anakin Skywalker, now reborn through the Emperor`s will as Darth Vader, the Emperor was able to destroy most of the Jedi Knights and conquer the Galaxy.

But destiny loomed. Luke Skywalker, the very son of Palpatine`s Vader, would have a say in the monstrous Emperor`s future...

Piett, Captain

A First Officer in the Imperial Navy on Darth Vader`s flagship Executor who later takes part in the attack on Hoth and leads the search for the Millennium Falcon.

Piett is promoted from Captain to Admiral when Darth Vader executes Admiral Ozzel after his disastrous error at Hoth. Piett stayed in command through the Battle of Endor.

R2-D2 (Artoo-Detoo)

An R2-series astromech utility droid, D2 is a barrel-shaped machine with a near-human personality who was aboard Princess Leia`s consular ship when it was overtaken and boarded by Imperial forces. The princess placed the technical readouts for the Death Star in Artoo`s memory banks, then ordered him to find Obi-Wan Kenobi, R2-D2 communicates in his own expressive language of beeps and whistles, which C3-PO most often translates.

Rebel Alliance

When the Old Republic started to fall apart, Basil Organa, Princess Leia`s foster parent, formed the Alliance To restore The Republic (Rebel Alliance) to try to preserve it. When that failed he set it to fight against the evil Empire.

The main seat of the Rebel Alliance remained on Bail Organa`s home planet Alderaan until it was destroyed by the Death Star, although the rebels had many smaller bases around the galaxy.

When the Emperor became aware of the Rebels, he tried several items to destroy them, but failed.

An electronic card game played using 76 chip-cards with values that change according to random electronic impulses. The deck`s four suits are sabres, staves, flasks, and coins. each suit consists of cards numbered one to 11 and four ranked cards - Commander, Mistress, Master, and Ace - equivalent to 12 to 15.

Skywalker, Anakin

Anakin, the father of Luke Skywalker, lives in the slave quarters of the rough, dangerous town Mos Espa. His home planet has been invaded by evil Mandalorians who have slaughtered his parents.

But the youthful Anakin is too spirited to admit defeat. A natural whiz with machines, his burning dream - like that of his son, Luke, in the original Star Wars film - is to become a star pilot in The Phantom Menace.

Skywalker, Luke

Brought up as the foster son of a farming couple on planet Tatooine, Luke survived personal tragedy and underwent an amazing series of adventures to become the greatest hero of the rebel Alliance. Obi-Wan Kenobi taught him all about the Force and as a result Luke became the only man alive who could re-ignite the flame of the mystical Jedi Knights who were so close to being wiped out.

Not till he met Kenobi did he realise the power he had over a lightsaber and for years he was unaware that his father, Anakin Skywalker, had become Darth Vader. He didn't even know he had a twin sister, Leia, with whom he was about to reshape the galaxy.

Skywalker, Shmi

Anakin`s mother, forced to bid a painful farewell to her young son as he set off to pursue his dreams of becoming a great Jedi Knight.

Solo, Han

Half-corellian, Han Solo enrolled in the Imperial Academy, graduated with honours, and was on his way to a brilliant career in the Imperial Navy when his conscience got in the way when he rescued a Wookiee from slavers.

Earning a dishonourable discharge and the life-long gratitude of the Wookiee, Chewbacca, Solo won his prized ship, the Millennium Falcon, in a sabacc game from Lando Calrissian and he and Chewie earned a living as smugglers, getting in debt to Jabba the Hutt.

Han became involved with the rebel Alliance and he`s had a hectic career ever since. He helped rescue Princess Leia from a cell aboard the first death Star and led a strike force against the second. In between, he was encased in carbonite and rescued from Jabba`s palace.

Stormtroopers are Imperial shock troops made of cloned men. They are thinking men, but serve a specific purpose and no other - to remain blindly faithful to the Emperor.

A clone has no mother, only his trainers. A fetus is removed from the hatchery after a gestation period of 60 weeks and is delivered immediately into the hands of its retainers.

Tantive IV

The consular ship of Princess Leia, the property of the Royal House of Alderaan. It was sued for senate work, but also by the Rebel Alliance until captured by Darth Vader`s Devastator. That interception began the build-up to the Battle of Yavin.

Tarkin, Grand Moff

Governor Tarkin was the commander of the death Star and even had command over Darth Vader. After being named Grand Moff, he reported only to the Emperor.

he led the attack on the rebels at Yavin convinced the Death Star was invincible despite being told otherwise by advisors.

Had he survived the battle, he planned to use the Death Star against the Emperor himself.

Located near the worlds of Ryloth and Piroket and strategically important, the harsh desert planet of Tatooine was the childhood home of Luke Skywalker and has been the scene of many a battle.

Tatooine is home to two species; the scavenging Jawas and the fierce Tusken Raiders, or Sand People.

Animal life includes the vicious sarlacc, which is said to take a thousand years to digest its prey, and the similarly-unfriendly Krayt dragon.

The tauntauns is a Hoth reptile-like creature which walks on hind legs and can be trained as a riding animal.  The Rebels used it to patrol the surroundings of Echo Base.

Thick fur allows them to live in the harsh weather conditions on the ice planet, where they live in caves and are sometimes called snow lizards.

Vader, Darth

Darth Vader was once known as Anakin Skywalker, student of Obi-Wan Kenobi. But then it all went terribly wrong ....

Anakin turned to the Dark Side of the Force and although Kenobi tried to turn his apprentice back to the Light Side, the man would not hear of it.

The two of them fought with lightsabers and Vader fell into a molten pit of lava.  Assuming he was dead, Kenobi left. But Vader was a long way from death. He managed to crawl out of the pit and, suitably equipped with a horrific but life-supporting breathing mask, went on to become a powerful commander of the Imperial Navy - the right hand of Emperor Palpatine.

After becoming the sole survivor of the first Death Star, Vader`s goal was to find Luke Skywalker. He hired a team of bounty hunters, among them Boba Fett, to track down the Millennium Falcon after it had escaped from Hoth.

Boba Fett found them and led Vader to the Cloud City above Bespin before Han Solo and friends got there, shortly afterwards, Luke - Vader`s real target - arrived at the Cloud City.

Vader defeated Luke in a duel with lightsabers and sliced off his right hand. He then told Luke that he was his father and offered him the chance to turn to the Dark Side and rule the galaxy with him. Luke wouldn`t have it.

Vader faced Luke in battle a second time, with Luke appealing to his father, trying to reach the bit of Anakin he was sure remained inside.

Vader was beaten down and had his hand chopped off before Luke confronted the Emperor who attacked him with blue Force lightning.

As he prepared to kill young Skywalker, Vader grabbed the Emperor and threw him down the shaft of the Death Star`s power core.

Vader knew he was dying and asked his son to remove his helmet. There was, after all, a little light within his dark spirit.

Anakin`s body then became one with the Force and Luke took his mask and clothes to the forest moon of Endor and burned them on a pyre.

Windu, Mace

A powerful member of the Jedi council, it`s rumoured that he is the owner of the Millennium Falcon. Windu, a good man in the new movie, sees beyond young Anakin`s blond hair and sweet face. He has doubts about the boy`s ability to "bring balance to the Force". Windu`s fears are justified as Anakin becomes sucked into the darker forces.

X-34 Landspeeder

The favoured craft of Luke Skywalker, it hovers above the ground even whilst stationary. Low power repulsorlifts are boosted by three turbine to send it zooming across the surface.

Yavin, Battle of

When Governor Tarkin tracked Millennium Falcon to the hidden rebel base Yavin IV, he tried to destroy the planet using the Death Star.

But the rebels launched a counterattack, using the Death Star plans provided by Princess Leia which showed a weakness. Luke Skywalker managed to fire some proton torpedoes into an outlet which destroyed the Death Star and General Tarkin. Darth Vader, who was piloting his customary TIE fighter, escaped from this - the first major engagement of the Galactic Civil War and the first major tactical victory for the Rebel Alliance.

Yoda, Jedi Master

Perhaps the greatest Jedi ever, Yoda lived to be approximately 900 years old, serving as mentor and teacher to a succession of Jedi Knight, and proving their savour when they were nearly wiped out. Two of his best students were Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker.

Yoda made his students unlearn what they had been taught, guiding them instead to tune in to the world around them to learn its truths.

He spent his last years in seclusion, hiding from the eyes of the Emperor on the swamp planet Dagobah. He warned Luke that a confrontation with Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine was inevitable before breathing his last and vanishing, becoming one with the Force.

The father of Jabba the Hutt was imprisoned on the plant Kip for 20 years so he didn`t immediately know of the death of his son, who left him all his possessions.
